Years: 2015, 2017
Synopsis: In the first miniseries, First Day of Camp, the cast of the 2001 film returns to chronicle the first day at Camp Firewood in 1981, including government forces threatening to destroy them all. In the second, Ten Years Later, most of the original cast returns to chronicle the ten year reunion, while former president Ronald Reagan plots to destroy the camp for good.
The first miniseries especially is a distillation of everything that made the film so stupidly fun. No matter how ridiculous or intentionally full of holes, there is a great satirical plot.
The stupid satire isn’t for everyone. The second miniseries lacks some of the laser comedic focus of the first.
Both miniseries are full of so many laughs, especially the first. This brand of comedy is such a guilty pleasure. It’s doubtful there will be more, but what we got overall is a wonderful piece of bad art the world needs more of.
